iOS Mail - Emails Missing or Not Syncing

We have had some reports of some users seeing sync issues or missing mail on iOS 18+. This seems to be related to some new features in this version of iOS.

Info
Please Note: The screenshots and steps below were taken from an iPhone running iOS 18.3.1

Mail Privacy Protection

Mail Privacy Protection allows iOS users to hide your IP address so senders can’t link it to your other online activity or determine your exact location. It also prevents senders from seeing if you’ve opened the email message they sent you. Some users have reported having this enabled can cause sync issues, please see steps below on how to turn this off:
  1. Open the 'Settings' app
  2. Tap 'Apps' then scroll down to and tap 'Mail'
  3. Tap on 'Privacy Protection'

  4. Once in 'Privacy Protection' turn off 'Protect Mail Activity' by clicking the green toggle, this will then show some more options:

  5. If 'Hide IP Address' is on, toggle this off and then try and resync mail in the 'Mail' app.

Category & List View

With iOS 18.2, Apple added a Categories view in the Mail app, which is designed to organize your incoming emails by type. This automatic categorisation can lead to some emails not being visible in the inbox, especially if you are used to a normal 'List View'. Please see some steps below on how to switch back to the normal 'List View':
  1. Open the 'Mail' app
  2. Select the inbox you wish to view, this can be 'All Inboxes' also
  3. At the top right of the inbox will be three horizontal dots, next to the 'Select' button. Tap the three dots to expand a menu

  4. Tap 'List View' to select this as the view for this inbox. This will then remove the automatic categorisation and show the contents of your inbox in one view.
