Frequently asked questions

How do I get started?
It's easy, login to your admin, click the "Free SSL's" button and fill in the form and you will be rolling. You do need access to the mail listed in the "whois" info of the domain though.
Is it easy to install?
Yup, very much so. Take a look at the tutorials here, to the right you can see how to install on different control panels like Cpanel. If you run Direct Admin, check out these pages, go to the point: "Installing a Purchased Certificate". Windows users should go here. If you have bought "Supreme Support" from us you can ask our team to install the certificates for you as a part of the managed service we provide.
What is SSL?
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is a global standard security technology developed by Netscape in 1994. SSL creates an encrypted link between a web server and a web browser to ensure that all data transmitted remains private and secure. Millions of consumers recognize the "golden padlock" which appears in their browser to indicate they are viewing a secure web page.
Why do I need SSL?
You will gain competitive advantage by appearing more trusted and more legitimate. You can provide assurance to your customers that their data cannot be tampered with or forged, and ensure that your customer's sensitive data is transmitted securely
Can I resell these SSL's?
Yes, sure, but they are only working on our IP's. So, you can't sell them to anyone not running on our network. The form used when ordering the SSL will check the domain in the process, and only allow the generation of the certificate when verified as a domain hosted on the UK2 IP range.
Can I give them to all my clients?
Yes, these SSL's are yours to distribute. You can incl. them in bundles, sell them at a premium to your clients, or simply just give them to your clients for free.
What type of SSL's do you provide?
It's the Positive SSL powered by COMODO, one of the market leaders on the SSL scene. Read more here - normal price is £33 per certificate, at UK2.net it's free, free, free!
Can I use these free SSL certificates on websites not hosted by UK2?
No, these certificates are only valid and functional on UK2 servers, as they are continuously checked to ensure they are running on our IP numbers. If the certificates are found to be running on external IP's they will be disabled and will result in error messages for visitors.
Cool, unlimited SSL's - but hang on, nothing is unlimited...
Well, true - nothing is really unlimited, but you can add all the SSL's you want to your server, providing you have the dedicated IP's and the processor power to run them.
How about renewals of the SSL's?
For now we plan to continue to offer this service for free, however if by some chance the SSL market goes through significant changes that do not allow us to maintain this offer renewals might be chargeable in the future, you would always be given fair notice if circumstances changed however.
